Ovda Airport, International airport in Hevel Eilot Regional Council, Israel
Ovda Airport is an airfield located in the Hevel Eilot region in the Negev Desert. The site has a runway and terminal facilities for aircraft operations, situated in a remote desert area with minimal vegetation.
The airport was established in the 1980s to support air traffic in southern Israel and improve connections to the region. Since then, the facility has served multiple purposes and undergone several modifications.
The terminal displays local art installations that showcase the natural elements of the Negev Desert and regional patterns from neighboring communities.
The site is easily reachable by road from Eilat and sits about 60 kilometers to the north of the city. The surroundings are dry and hot, especially during summer months, so bring appropriate clothing.
The site originally functioned as a military airfield and later opened for civilian use, making it a rare example of shared operations. Today it operates intermittently with greatly reduced activity.
