Holy Sepulchre, Christian pilgrimage site in Jerusalem.
The Church of the Holy Sepulchre is a church in the Christian Quarter of the Old City of Jerusalem.
It contains, according to traditions dating back to at least the fourth century, the two holiest sites in Christianity: the site where Jesus was crucified, and Jesus's empty tomb.
The church has been an important Christian pilgrimage destination since at least the 4th century as the purported site of the resurrection of Jesus.
Today it serves as the headquarters of the Greek Orthodox Patriarch of Jerusalem, while control of the building is shared between several Christian churches and secular entities in complicated arrangements essentially unchanged for centuries.
Despite being damaged by fires and earthquakes over the centuries, the Church of the Holy Sepulchre remains one of the oldest working churches in existence today.
