Jerusalem Metropolitan Park, Metropolitan nature park in Jerusalem, Israel
The Jerusalem Metropolitan Park spreads across about 43 kilometers surrounding the city and offers extensive walking paths and cycling routes through natural landscapes. Visitors find maintained trails, designated picnic spots, and cafes distributed throughout the grounds.
The land was acquired in 1906, and in 1920 eight families settled there during a period of regional tensions. This early settlement shaped the development of the later park and its surroundings.
The park holds a memorial with a bronze American flag and commemorative sculptures that honor significant historical events and people.
The area is accessible from several entry points, and it is best to visit in good weather when trails are easier to navigate. Bring plenty of water and sun protection, as some sections offer limited shade.
The park links three distinct valleys together: Arazim Valley, Motza Valley to the east, and Refaim Valley to the south. These different landscape zones create varied walking experiences within a connected territory.
