Karur district, Administrative district in Tamil Nadu, India
Karur district is an administrative division in central Tamil Nadu that encompasses approximately 2,900 square kilometers. It is divided into eight administrative subdivisions and shares boundaries with Namakkal, Dindigul, Tiruchirappalli, and Erode districts.
The district was created on July 25, 1996, when it was separated from Tiruchirappalli district as a distinct administrative entity. Before this division, the region had been part of different administrative arrangements.
The region contains 203 revenue villages and 157 panchayats, maintaining traditional governance structures while incorporating modern administrative systems.
The eight administrative subdivisions provide decentralized governance and allow residents and visitors to access services across different areas of the district. Each subdivision serves as a local administrative hub for various official matters.
Three rivers flow through the area and support both agricultural and industrial activities across the region. The district is known for textile production and bus manufacturing, which shape the local economy.
