Roopkund, Glacial lake in Uttarakhand, India
Roopkund is a high altitude glacial lake in the Indian state of Uttarakhand.
The lake is famous for the hundreds of ancient human skeletons found at the edge of the lake, which are visible when the snow melts.
It is a popular trekking destination and is often included in the Nanda Devi Raj Jat pilgrimage that takes place once every twelve years.
The trek to Roopkund Lake is a moderately difficult one and is usually undertaken in two stages with an overnight halt at Bedni Bugyal.
The mystery surrounding the identity and cause of death of the people whose skeletons were found around the lake has been the subject of several scientific studies.
