Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar district, Administrative district in Punjab, India
Shaheed Bhagat Singh Nagar is an administrative district in Punjab comprised of three subdivisions: Nawanshahr, Banga, and Balachaur. These areas sit within the Doaba region and blend rural landscapes with small urban centers.
The district was formed in 1995 by merging areas from the neighboring Hoshiarpur and Jalandhar districts. Nawanshahr became the administrative center of this newly created area.
The area is shaped by Hindu and Sikh communities, whose faith practices are woven into daily life. Temples and gurdwaras appear throughout the region and serve as important gathering places for these groups.
The district sits roughly 90 kilometers from Chandigarh and benefits from solid road and rail connections. This infrastructure makes it straightforward for visitors to move between different parts of the area.
The district received recognition as the cleanest city in North India during a 2020 national cleanliness assessment. This honor reflects the high standards maintained in urban cleaning and infrastructure care.
