Gir Forest, Wildlife sanctuary in Gujarat, India
Gir National Park is the sole home of the Asiatic lions and is considered one of the most important protected areas in Asia due to its supported species.
Established in 1965, Gir National Park spans an area of 1,412 km2.
The Maldharis tribe living in the Gir forest have a symbiotic relationship with the lion population, coexisting peacefully for many years.
The park is closed from June to mid-October during monsoon season.
It's the only place in the world where you can spot Asiatic lions in their natural habitat.
