Salboni community development block, Community development block in Medinipur Sadar subdivision, India.
Salboni is a community development block in the Medinipur Sadar subdivision of West Bengal, made up mostly of farmland and small rural villages. The terrain is flat and low-lying, with fields and scattered settlements spread across the area.
The area was once known for serious security problems and was considered one of the most troubled zones in West Bengal. After 2008, the block was reorganized with a focus on building local infrastructure and improving conditions.
Different communities live side by side in this rural area, each with their own language and traditions. Bengali is widely spoken, but you will also hear Santali and other languages in daily conversations.
The block is best reached by road, with connections to nearby towns through local transport. Traveling during the dry season makes getting around easier, as roads tend to be in better condition.
Salboni is home to a currency printing facility run by India's central bank, which produces notes that circulate across the whole country. It is one of the few such facilities in India, making this rural block part of a very short list of locations tied to the national money supply.
