Uthralikavu Pooram

This temple dedicated to Goddess Mahakali sits in a valley between surrounding hills and hosts a festival featuring 33 decorated elephants and firework displays. The natural landscape forms the backdrop for the entire celebration, with processions moving through the terrain.

This shrine stands as one of central Kerala's oldest temples, with roots connecting to ancient regional worship practices. The site has maintained its sacred purpose across generations and continues to draw devotion from surrounding communities.

The festival brings together participants from three neighboring regions, each contributing eleven elephants to the procession in a show of shared devotion. This collaboration transforms the event into a communal celebration that strengthens bonds between these communities.

The temple sits two kilometers north of Vadakkanchery along the Kodungallur-Shornur highway and is easily accessible near the railway tracks. Visitors should expect large crowds during the festival and wear comfortable shoes as the terrain is uneven.
