Ettampadai Temple, Hindu temple in Triplicane, Chennai, India.
Ettampadai Temple is a Hindu temple in the Triplicane neighborhood of Chennai, Tamil Nadu, with several inner chambers each housing a separate shrine. The shrines are dedicated to different deities, including Pillayar, Kumbeshwara, Ambigai, and Sri Kanaga Durga, giving the space a multi-focal devotional layout.
The temple was founded in 1845 after a local resident named Pachayammal donated the land needed for its construction. This act of private generosity gave the place its roots as a community-built sanctuary rather than a state or royal foundation.
The temple is considered the eighth Padaiveedu of Lord Muruga, a status that draws devoted pilgrims who see it as part of a wider sacred circuit. During festivals like Thai-Poosam and Vaikashi-Vishakham, the surrounding streets fill with worshippers and the air carries the sound of music and chanting.
The temple is open during two daily periods, one in the early morning and one in the late afternoon into the evening. Visiting near the start or end of either session gives you the best chance of seeing puja ceremonies in progress.
The temple has a musical choir called Bhajaneshwara that was formed in 1978 to raise funds for restoration work, and it still sings today. This makes the group a living part of the temple's story rather than just a historical footnote.
