Adiyogi Shiva statue, Steel monument in Coimbatore, India
Adiyogi Shiva is a large metal sculpture depicting the head and upper chest of a Hindu deity, located at a spiritual center in Coimbatore. The structure measures about 34 meters (112 feet) in height, around 45 meters (148 feet) in length, and approximately 25 meters (82 feet) in width.
The sculpture was inaugurated during the Maha Shivaratri festival in February 2017, marking a special moment for the spiritual community. Its construction brought together modern engineering and religious symbolism to create a public monument.
The statue stands on the grounds of a well-known yoga center, where people from different countries meditate and practice spiritual exercises every day. Visitors often see groups spending quiet moments in front of the figure or taking part in shared ceremonies, especially during religious holidays.
The site can be reached via Coimbatore International Airport or the city's main train station, followed by a drive of about 30 kilometers (19 miles) to the west. Visitors will find parking areas and walkways on site that make it easier to access the grounds.
The work holds the Guinness World Record as the largest bust sculpture in the world, with the metal frame weighing around 500 tonnes. Engineers had to develop special techniques to distribute the weight evenly and ensure stability in wind conditions.
