Ballarpur Fort, Medieval fort in Chandrapur district, India.
Ballarpur Fort is a medieval fort in Chandrapur district, Maharashtra, built with rectangular walls of black stone. Two entrance gates are set at right angles to each other, a layout designed to slow down any force trying to enter by force.
King Khandkya Ballal Sah had the fort built in the 15th century when he moved his capital from Sirpur to what became Chandrapur. The fort served as the seat of power for the Gond kingdom during a period of expansion in the region.
The name Ballarpur comes from the fort's founder, King Ballal Sah, whose legacy shaped how people understand this place today. Locals view it as a symbol of the region's past power and independence during medieval times.
The cooler months between October and February are the most comfortable time to visit, as temperatures in this part of Maharashtra can get very high in summer. Sturdy footwear is a good idea since the ground is uneven in many spots and some sections need careful footing.
Beneath the fort there are said to be underground tunnels that have never been fully explored, and a small hidden entrance can be found on the side facing the river. This suggests that a part of the original defensive layout has never been fully mapped or studied.
