Damavand, Stratovolcano in Amol County, Iran
Mount Damavand rises to 5610 meters in the Alborz mountain range, featuring a conical shape with snow-covered slopes and numerous thermal springs at its base.
The mountain formed through tectonic plate collisions between Arabian and Eurasian plates, with its last recorded volcanic activity dating back to approximately 5300 BCE.
Persian mythology connects Mount Damavand to the legend of Aži Dahāka, a three-headed dragon believed to remain chained within the mountain depths.
Climbers access the summit through sixteen established routes, with the Polour Village path providing a base camp at 4220 meters for proper acclimatization.
The mountain contains the Yakhar Glacier and supports diverse wildlife, including Persian leopards, Armenian mouflons, and Caspian snowcocks in its various elevation zones.
