Ali Kosh, Archaeological mound in Dehloran, Iran.

The archaeological site of Ali Kosh spans 135 meters in diameter and sits within the Zagros Mountains of western Iran.

Archaeological excavations in the 1960s by Frank Hole and Kent Flannery revealed three distinct occupation phases dating from 7500 BCE to 6500 BCE.

During the second occupation phase from 7250 to 7000 BCE, inhabitants practiced skull deformation using bandages and buried their dead beneath house floors.

The site demonstrates the evolution of construction techniques from rammed earth structures to stone buildings over a thousand-year period.

Genetic analysis of human remains from Ali Kosh provides evidence of diversity within early Neolithic populations in western Iran.
