Karun-4 Dam, Concrete arch dam in Ardal County, Iran
The Karun-4 Dam stretches 440 meters across the Karun River, featuring a dual-curved concrete structure that rises 230 meters from its foundation.
Construction of the Karun-4 Dam started in 1997, with initial studies conducted in 1995, and the structure officially opened its gates in November 2010.
The dam introduction changed agricultural methods in Chaharmahal and Bakhtiari province, affecting traditional farming practices of local communities.
Four Francis turbines within the dam structure generate 1,020 megawatts of electricity, supplying power to the national grid through modern distribution systems.
The structure manages the Karun River, which maintains the highest water discharge rate among all rivers in Iran.
