Hormuz Island

Located 8 kilometers from the Iranian coast, this 42-square-kilometer island features red ochre beaches, mangrove forests, and multicolored mountains.

Portuguese forces captured the island in 1507 and constructed Fort Our Lady of the Conception to secure their maritime trade route to India.

The local Bandari women wear traditional face masks called boregheh that indicate their ethnic background through specific shapes and colors.

Transportation on the island remains limited to tuk-tuks and motorbikes, with regular boat services connecting to Bandar Abbas and Qeshm Island.

The red soil of Hormuz contains iron oxide deposits, which local inhabitants incorporate into their bread-making and fish-cooking practices.
