Torbat-e Heydarieh is a city in Razavi Khorasan Province located at approximately 1,350 meters (4,430 feet) elevation in the central region. The city houses several universities and functions as a regional educational center with various academic institutions.
The city developed from the ancient settlement of Zaveh and was rebuilt as Torbat-e Heydarieh following Mongol invasions under Ishaq Khan Qaraei's rule. This transformation marked a turning point in the region's history.
The name Torbat comes from Persian and means burial place, honoring Qutb ad-Din Haydar, a Sufi mystic whose tomb stands in the city center. This spiritual connection shapes how locals view and use the space today.
