Narin Castle

Narin Castle is an adobe fortress in Meybod with three levels stacked vertically and four corner towers that rise above the surrounding plain. The structure combines residential and defensive features throughout its layered design, with thick earthen walls that create narrow passages and small rooms.

The fortress originates from ancient times with influences from the Median, Achaemenid, and Sassanid periods. The structure underwent several rebuildings and modifications over the centuries to meet the changing needs of its inhabitants.

The castle's three-tiered structure reflects social hierarchies, with different sections designated for various classes within the ancient Persian community.

Access to the upper levels happens via two spiral staircases that climb through the interior and emerge onto terraces with wide views. The ground is uneven throughout, so sturdy shoes and careful footing are needed to navigate safely between the different tiers.

The structure incorporates an advanced water system directly into its thick earthen walls, enabling water supply throughout the building. This engineering solution reveals that its ancient builders possessed sophisticated knowledge of hydraulics and construction techniques.
