Saint George Armenian Church

Saint George Armenian Church is a church building in the Sangelaj district constructed in the Qajar architectural style. The structure features a central dome with twelve skylights supported by arches and four interior pillars throughout the space.

The building originated in 1795 as a small chapel during Agha Mohammad Khan Qajar's rule. It received its current architectural form through reconstruction in 1882.

The church reflects the presence of the Armenian community in Tehran and their deep roots in the city over generations. Visitors can observe how Armenian religious traditions are expressed through the building's design and sacred spaces.

The entrance doors are low, requiring visitors to lower their heads when entering the building. It helps to wear comfortable shoes and move carefully when entering, as the low doorways demand conscious movement and attention.

The bell tower stands on the western side of the dome and holds a distinct place in the church's architectural layout. The eastern section contains a dedicated area for prayer and singing that organizes the liturgical space.
