Saint John Church

The church features three domes, including a central conical dome with a tall stem and brick decorations in traditional Persian architectural patterns.

Built in 1840 by Russian and French architects along with Azerbaijani craftsmen, this church incorporates elements of both Sasanian and Qajar architectural styles.

The church, named after Saint John the Apostle, represents the Armenian Christian heritage in Iran and stands as a symbol of religious diversity.

Located 35 kilometers from Tabriz on the Tabriz-Marand road, the church building measures 18 meters in length with varying widths of 7.5 and 4.5 meters.

The earthquake of 1936 damaged the structure, yet its remaining architectural features, including the 16-pointed star plan of the bell tower, display exceptional craftsmanship.
