Saint Mary Church, Armenian church in New Julfa district, Isfahan, Iran
Saint Mary Church is an Armenian place of worship in Isfahan with a rectangular layout topped by a large dome supported by sturdy pillars. The interior divides into three connected sections, with biblical paintings decorating the walls throughout.
The structure was built in 1613 during the Safavid era, reflecting the architectural style of that period. A wealthy silk merchant called Khoja Avedik later funded significant renovations that added chandeliers and new artworks to the interior.
The church serves as a gathering place for the Armenian community in Isfahan, where religious practices and ceremonies keep their faith alive today. Visitors can witness how traditions shape the daily spiritual life of those who worship here.
The building sits near Mehrdad Bus Station on Hakim Nezami Street and is straightforward to reach. Visitors should wear respectful clothing and check current opening hours before going to ensure access.
The exterior portico stands supported by twenty carved stone columns linked by arches decorated with colored glazed tiles. This blend shows how Persian design elements were woven into Armenian building traditions.
