Dowlatabad Garden

Dowlatabad Garden is a garden in Yazd, Iran, valued for its architecture and landscape design. The site contains several buildings, including a central house with mirrored rooms, a front residence, and extensive water channels that flow throughout the grounds.

Mohammad Taghi Khan Bafqi established the garden in 1747 following Nader Shah's death and constructed an underground water supply system. This aqueduct transported water from the distant city of Mehriz to sustain the vegetation in the arid surroundings.

The garden displays classical Persian landscaping principles through its balanced layout and the way water, plants, and buildings work together. The path visitors follow through different areas reflects a design that balances movement and stillness in a thoughtful way.

The garden is walkable, and visitors can explore the different areas including the central house and water features. It is advisable to visit during daylight hours to see the architectural and landscape details clearly.

The site houses one of the world's tallest windcatcher towers, a traditional cooling device made of adobe brick that still functions today. This engineering feat was accomplished without modern materials or machinery, showcasing the skill of ancient builders.
