Description
Lónsöræfi is a nature reserve encompassing mountain ranges, valleys, and wilderness areas with colorful rhyolite rocks and mineral deposits located east of Vatnajökull glacier. History
The area became a protected site in 1977 through collaboration between local landowners and the East Iceland Environment Association. This partnership ensured long-term preservation of the landscape and its natural value.
