Boves

Boves is a commune in the foothills of the Alps in the Province of Cuneo, where meadows and forests spread across rolling hills. The town sits at around 590 meters in elevation and is divided into nine smaller hamlets scattered throughout the area.

The town received the Gold Medal for Military Valor in 1943 after German troops destroyed over 350 houses and attacked civilians during World War II. This honor recognizes the community's resistance and suffering during the occupation.

The community speaks Occitan in daily life and gathers for local events that keep this language alive in the valleys. This linguistic tradition shapes how residents connect with their surroundings and heritage.

The town is accessible by regional roads and sits about 80 kilometers southwest of Turin. From here, visitors can easily explore the surrounding valleys and mountain areas of Piedmont.

The nine hamlets that make up the town each have distinct names and local character, including Castellar, Cerati, and Madonna dei Boschi. This scattered settlement pattern shows how people have adapted to the agricultural landscape over time.
