La Thuile

La Thuile is a ski resort in the Italian Alps of the Aosta Valley that spreads across slopes of varying difficulty and connects with the French ski area of La Rosière. The terrain includes lift systems and runs for beginners through advanced skiers, with mountain elevations that create different snow conditions throughout the season.

The settlement began as a mining community in the region and shifted toward winter sports in the mid-1900s. This transformation connected it to the cross-border ski network between Italy and France.

The village maintains mountain traditions through local stone architecture and regional food that are woven into daily life. You see traditional buildings throughout and can try authentic Aosta Valley dishes in restaurants and mountain huts.

The best time to visit is from November through April when snowfall is heaviest and slopes are well groomed. Expect busier lift lines during weekends and holidays, while weekdays offer calmer conditions on the mountain.

A steep slope called Franco Berthod draws competitive skiers with its extreme gradient that only experienced riders can handle. This specialized run sets itself apart from the regular slopes found across the resort.
