Penne, Historic commune in Province of Pescara, Italy

Penne is a small commune in the Province of Pescara situated on elevated terrain between two rivers. The town spreads across an area of about 90 square kilometers and is characterized by red brick construction throughout its buildings.

The settlement was originally a center of the Vestini people, an ancient group inhabiting the region. When Rome defeated them in 89 BC, the town became part of the Roman Republic under the name Pinna Vestinorum.

The 'City of Bricks' name comes from the red clay bricks used throughout the old town's buildings. This material shapes how the historic center looks and feels when walking its streets.

The town sits on a hillside and is best explored on foot through its narrow old streets. A local hospital provides medical services, and you will find shops and cafes scattered around the center.

The town is known for hosting a Brioni fashion house where skilled craftspeople produce high-quality garments using traditional hand-sewing techniques. This luxury production has remained rooted in the community for decades.
