Spoltore, Medieval commune in Province of Pescara, Italy

Spoltore is a commune in the Province of Pescara in central Italy. The town sits on rolling hills with narrow lanes, stone houses clustered together, and remains of medieval defensive walls that once protected the settlement.

The settlement developed in medieval times as a fortified hilltop community to control trade routes through the region. Over centuries the town evolved, with some original structures replaced by newer construction while other parts retain their ancient character.

The San Panfilo Parish Church displays fine stucco work and a portal designed by Alessandro Terzani. These decorations show how local artisans shaped the appearance of the town center over time.

The town sits about eight kilometers from Pescara and the coast, making it easy to reach by car. Wear comfortable walking shoes since the streets wind uphill with cobblestones and narrow passages throughout the center.

The Madonna della Porta church holds a wooden statue of the Virgin Mary carved in the 10th century. This carving is among the oldest pieces remaining in the town and reveals how long people have worshipped here.
