Piedimonte Matese is a commune located in the Province of Caserta at the base of the Matese mountains, sitting at approximately 165 meters in elevation. The town spreads across the surrounding hillside with the mountains forming its natural backdrop.
The settlement was originally known as Piedimonte d'Alife before taking its current name in 1970. In 1861, approximately 240 volunteers from the area formed the Matese Legion and joined Giuseppe Garibaldi's forces.
The Church of San Biagio dates to the 15th century and features late-Gothic frescoes showing biblical scenes and the life of Saint Blaise. These paintings reflect religious stories that shaped the community's spiritual identity over time.
