Vercelli Synagogue, Synagogue in Vercelli, Italy.
The Vercelli Synagogue is a house of worship in Piedmont designed with Moorish Revival architecture, distinguished by red-and-white masonry courses. The building features a central nave flanked by two side galleries.
The Jewish community commissioned architect Marco Treves to design this place of worship in 1874, with Giuseppe Locarni overseeing construction until completion in 1878. This period marked the growth of the community's presence in the region.
The interior shows Christian-influenced design choices, with seating arranged toward the tevah and the ark in the apse. This reflects how the community chose to organize its prayer space.
The building is reached via Via Foa 56 and opens for visitors during religious celebrations and through arranged group tours by prior request. Plan ahead as visiting hours are limited and depend on scheduled events.
The windows are made of colored glass and cast colored light patterns across the interior walls as sunlight enters. These details create shifting moods throughout the day.
