Guastalla, Renaissance town in Po Valley, Italy

Guastalla stretches across both sides of the river and combines historical buildings with spacious squares that shape the townscape. The place preserves a typical Renaissance layout with religious and civic structures from different periods.

The Gonzaga family established it as a duchy in 1621 and chose it as their residence, promoting artistic and cultural development. This period shaped the urban layout and attracted notable artists and craftspeople to the region.

The cathedral displays Renaissance architecture with symmetrical facades and side chapels that reflect the town's religious life. The squares around it serve as gathering places where locals meet and community life unfolds.

The town is well connected by train to nearby cities and served by buses to neighboring municipalities. Most historical sights are centrally located and easy to reach on foot.

The Maldotti Library holds over 80,000 books, including manuscripts and early printed works from several centuries. This collection preserves rare items that few places in the region can offer.
