Bojano is a commune in the province of Campobasso situated at the foot of the Matese mountains at an elevation of around 480 meters. The town spreads across roughly 49 square kilometers and is surrounded by hills that shape its landscape.

The town traces its roots to the ancient settlement of Bovianum, founded in the 7th century BC as the capital of the Samnite tribe called the Pentri. It held strategic importance during their resistance against Roman military campaigns in ancient times.
