Pollica, Administrative commune in Province of Salerno, Italy
Pollica is a commune in the Province of Salerno with five hamlets, including the coastal villages of Acciaroli and Pioppi. The settlement spreads across different elevations and connects mountain areas to the seaside.
The first written record of this place dates to 1113 when Targisius II Sanseverino transferred land to the Abbey of Cava. The settlement later developed under the control of local noble families.
The place is known for the Mediterranean diet tradition that people continue to practice and teach. Visitors can see vegetable gardens, olive groves, and fishing harbors woven into daily life.
The place is best explored on foot since narrow streets and steep slopes are not suited for vehicles. Wearing comfortable shoes is wise, and using local signs helps with orientation.
The Castello Capano was purchased by the community in 1997 and features a prominent tower that Prince Vincenzo Capano XV redesigned in 1610. The tower still displays the architectural changes from that period.
