Sora, Administrative division in Lazio, Italy
Sora is a commune in Frosinone province in the Lazio region, spreading along the Liri River through a valley between forested hills. The built-up area divides between an older core on higher ground and newer neighborhoods on the flat land near the water.
The settlement arose in pre-Roman times and later expanded as a Roman colony under the name Sora Julia. During the Middle Ages the area shifted several times between Lombard, papal and Norman control.
The town name comes from its ancient Latin designation and remains part of everyday speech among residents. In the old quarter squares and cafés, people meet regularly for conversation and coffee.
The train station sits outside the center and requires a short walk or bus ride to reach the historic core. Those wanting to explore the surroundings will find walking trails in the nearby hills.
The bed of the Liri divides the town into several sections and has shaped street layout for centuries. Several bridges from different periods connect the banks and show the building development of the commune.
