Fattoria medicea di Stabbia, Medici villa in Cerreto Guidi, Italy
The Fattoria medicea di Stabbia is a rural estate in Tuscany featuring agricultural and administrative architecture with stone portals, a central hall, and service buildings arranged around a courtyard. The complex was designed as a management center for surrounding lands and has maintained this function to the present day.
The estate was built between 1548 and 1568 under Cosimo I de Medici and was intended to manage resources from the surrounding marshlands. Architect Niccolò Tribolo shaped the complex with a practical, administration-focused structure.
The estate served as a Medici administrative seat for the surrounding lands, showing how the family exercised power through such centers. Visitors can still recognize how the architecture was oriented toward control and economic management.
The property remains in private ownership and can only be viewed from the exterior without access to the interiors. The best vantage point to see the structure and courtyard is from the main approach.
A 16th century inventory described the property as a noble palace with an open plaza overlooking the lake, underscoring its role as both residence and administrative seat. This dual function as dwelling and workplace was typical for such Medici estates.
