The Mergellina Funicular connects five stations across Naples, stretching 570 meters from the marina area to the Posillipo Alto neighborhood.
Construction of the funicular began in the late 1920s to support urban expansion toward northwestern hills, with official operations starting on May 24, 1931.
The funicular serves as an essential link between the residential areas of Posillipo and the coastal district of Mergellina for local residents.
Trains operate every twenty minutes on weekdays from 7:00 to 20:00, with single journey tickets costing 1.10 euros and monthly passes available for 35 euros.
The funicular climbs 147 meters at a maximum gradient of 46.57 percent, completing the entire journey between terminals in approximately seven minutes.
