Folgarida, frazione of Dimaro Folgarida, Italy
Folgarida is a small village in Val di Sole in Trentino, situated at around 1,270 meters in elevation. The settlement is surrounded by fir and larch trees and is defined by its connection to an extensive ski area that spans a wide region.
The village was formally established in 1965 and grew due to its natural location along the route between Dimaro and Passo di Campo Carlo Magno. Its transformation from a farming settlement to a winter sports destination is closely tied to the modern development of the extensive ski area.
The name Folgarida means 'place of ferns' and reflects the forested landscape that shapes village life. Visitors notice how the community embraces seasonal rhythms - in winter everything centers on skiing, while summers bring hikers and mountain bikers exploring the woods and pastures.
The village divides into two areas: Folgarida Alta with views toward the Dolomites and Folgarida Bassa in the valley floor, both with good access to slopes and hiking trails. Visitors find diverse accommodations and can make day trips from here to nearby destinations like Madonna di Campiglio or the Meledrio gorge.
The Val Meledrio adjacent to the village is a narrow gorge with wild rocky terrain and waterfalls, reachable via a recently built larch wood bridge. This natural setting with the dramatic Pison waterfall remains unknown to many visitors despite being just a short distance away.
