Staffarda Abbey

The monastery complex includes a church with three naves, a square cloister, a sacristy, a chapter house, a refectory, and laboratories across two floors.

The Cistercian monks established the abbey in 1135 on uncultivated land donated by Marquis Manfredo I, transforming 1,300 hectares into productive agricultural land.

Following Saint Bernard's principles, the abbey features linear architecture using simple materials like exposed stone and brick, reflecting Cistercian values of austerity.

Visitors can explore the abbey from Tuesday to Sunday between 9:00 AM and 4:30 PM, with extended hours during March and seasonal schedule variations.

The monastery displays a 1531 polyptych by Pascale Oddone, featuring eight painted ovals and three orders of arches with polychrome wooden statues and golden finishes.
