Territorial Prelature of Pompei o Beatissima Vergine Maria del Santissimo Rosario

The Territorial Prelature of Pompei spans 12 square kilometers and includes five parishes centered around the Pontifical Basilica-Sanctuary of the Holy Rosary.

Pope Pius XI established the Territorial Prelature of Pompei through the papal bull Beatissimae Virginis Mariae on March 20, 1926.

The Pontifical Basilica serves as the cathedral of the prelature, attracting four million visitors each year for religious ceremonies and pilgrimages.

The prelature maintains a population of 26,140 residents, with 38 secular priests, 4 religious men, and 135 religious women serving the community.

The territory received its current boundaries on May 8, 1935, incorporating lands from the dioceses of Nola and Castellammare di Stabia.
