Circus of Maxentius, Ancient circus in Rome
The Circus of Maxentius is one of the best preserved ancient Roman circuses.
Built between AD 306 and 312, it was part of a larger complex including the Villa of Maxentius.
Circuses were venues for chariot racing, an important aspect of Roman culture and entertainment.
Today, the site is accessible to visitors interested in ancient Roman architecture.
The Circus of Maxentius is considerably less known than the Circus Maximus but better preserved.
