Crema Cathedral, Gothic cathedral in Crema, Italy
The cathedral is a three-aisle basilica with a slim facade topped by a loggia and a marble rose window containing sixteen petals above the main entrance. The structure blends Romanesque and Gothic elements throughout its design.
After Frederick Barbarossa destroyed the original structure in 1160, construction of the current building began in 1185 and lasted until 1340. This extended building period shows the importance of the project to the city.
The interior contains paintings by local artists that shaped the religious life of the community over centuries. These works still define how the space feels when you walk inside today.
The cathedral sits in the center of Crema and is easily reached on foot from nearby areas. Visitors should expect regular opening hours and allow enough time to view the interior artworks and architectural details.
