Gleno Dam, Ruins of a dam in Province of Bergamo, Italy.
Located at 1,534 meters altitude, the remaining concrete structures of Gleno Dam consist of two broken sections standing against the mountain landscape.
The dam collapsed on December 1, 1923, releasing six million cubic meters of water that caused destruction in multiple villages and resulted in 356 casualties.
The site functions as a memorial location where local communities gather annually to commemorate the victims and reflect on industrial development consequences.
Visitors can access the dam ruins through a marked hiking path starting from Pianezza, with parking facilities and seasonal shuttle services available.
The structure represented the first global attempt to combine multiple-arch and gravity dam construction methods, leading to engineering standard modifications in Italy.
