Cascate del Serio

The Serio Falls descend through three distinct cascades measuring 166, 74, and 75 meters, making them the tallest waterfalls in Italy at 315 meters total height.

The construction of the Barbellino Dam in 1931 altered the water flow of the falls, leading to their closure until arrangements for scheduled releases began in 1969.

Local folklore tells of a woman who imprisoned her love interest's fiancée in a castle, with the cascading water representing the captured woman's endless tears.

The falls release water only five times per year for 30 minutes each time, typically between June and October, requiring visitors to check the schedule before planning their trip.

Visitors must complete a two-mile hike from Valbondione to reach the observation point, where they can witness the powerful water release from the Barbellino Dam.
