Marilleva, settlement in the Italian municipality of Mezzana
Marilleva is a settlement in Val di Sole at about 3,100 feet (940 meters) elevation, comprising several small hamlets including Marilleva, Menas, Ortisé, and Roncio. Two main resort stations at 3,000 feet (900 meters) and 4,600 feet (1,400 meters) serve as gateways to the Dolomiti di Brenta ski area with numerous slopes and lift systems.
The area was historically defined by forestry and pastoral farming, with residents tending livestock and harvesting timber. Tourism arrived in the 1960s and transformed the local economy from agricultural dependence to seasonal visitors and winter sports.
Marilleva takes its name from a local phrase meaning "husband, get up!" in the traditional mountain dialect. This naming reflects the everyday life and humor of the farming families who settled these Alpine hamlets.
The hamlets sit in isolated mountain terrain and are best accessed via connecting roads from Mezzana below. For daily supplies, pharmacies, and services, visitors should plan to visit the nearby town.
The Noce River in the region received recognition from National Geographic as one of the top 10 rivers worldwide for white-water rafting. It is the only European river to achieve this distinction, offering visitors an exceptional adventure.
