Last Supper, Religious fresco in San Salvi Museum, Italy

This fresco covering the refectory's back wall depicts a large banquet scene with life-sized figures that fill the entire space. Jesus sits at the center of a long table surrounded by twelve disciples arranged in varied poses and at different depths.

The fresco was created in the 1520s during a turbulent period for Florence when the city faced military threats. It was painted for a monastery refectory where it remained in place through centuries of change.

The painting shows Jesus at table with his disciples, capturing the precise moment when he announces something terrible will happen. Each figure displays a different emotion through gestures and expressions, making the scene feel immediate and human rather than distant.

The fresco is displayed in a museum setting where you can view it clearly without obstacles. Plan to spend enough time in the room to appreciate the full composition and the details of each figure.

Above the main scene, two painted figures sit on a loggia watching the event unfold as if they are theater spectators. These observer figures create a layer of reflection that invites viewers to become observers themselves.
