Casa Guazzoni, Art Nouveau residence in Porta Venezia district, Milan, Italy
Casa Guazzoni is a residential building with an L-shaped footprint located at via Malpighi 12 in Milan. It features decorated cement facades, wrought iron balconies, and ornamental architectural details that extend across its exterior surfaces and entrance areas.
The building was constructed between 1904 and 1906 under architect Giovanni Battista Bossi's direction. It rose on land previously occupied by the company operating the city's transportation system.
The building shows how wealthy Milanese residents around 1900 decorated their homes with works from accomplished artists and craftspeople. Walking past, you can see the care taken in every surface and ornament, reflecting the lifestyle and tastes of its original owners.
The building remains a private residence and interior access requires permission from the current owners. However, you can freely view the decorated exterior and all its architectural embellishments from the street.
The grand wrought iron gate at the entrance leads to a staircase whose walls are covered with frescoes depicting cherubs and floral designs. These painted surfaces continue through interior spaces in ways most passersby never discover.
