From 1899 to 1972, the mercury mines of Monte Amiata produced 25 percent of global mercury output, matching production levels of mines in Spain and Slovenia.
The museum displays original work tools, period garments, and photographs documenting the daily operations of miners who descended into the 35-kilometer tunnel network.
Visitors can access the underground mining areas through guided tours, with tickets costing 12 euros for adults and 10 euros for children aged 6 to 12.
The facility maintains reconstructed workspaces at 250 meters depth, where visitors travel by original electric mining wagons through preserved industrial corridors.
