Madonna del Parto

Madonna del Parto is a former church in Sutri with three naves separated by tuff pillars creating distinct sections. The interior contains multiple niches and windows that allow light to fill the space naturally.

The building began as a Mithraeum temple in the 3rd century before being converted into a Christian church. This transformation reflects how sacred sites changed purpose and meaning across the centuries.

The structure combines natural rock formations with human-made modifications to create its distinctive character. It sits within an Etruscan cemetery, merging ancient stonework with the rocky landscape in an unusual way.
