Casa del Fascio, Former Fascist Party headquarters in Asciano, Italy
Casa del Fascio is a building in Asciano situated outside the city walls near the former gateway, distinguished by its monumental scale and exterior covered in travertine marble. The interior contains a cinema hall and other spaces that now serve different functions.
The building was designed by engineer Armando Sabatini and opened in 1937 when an important official attended the ceremony featuring a procession of carriages. After the war, it underwent several changes and eventually became a police station.
After the war, the building shed its fascist symbols and gained a new name reflecting its transformation. Locals experienced a shift in how they used and perceived the space as it changed purpose and meaning.
The building is visible from outside and located at a central point in town that is easy to reach on foot. The interior is not always open to visitors since it serves administrative purposes, but the facade and entrance area offer good viewing and photo opportunities.
The entrance is formed by a recessed area divided by two massive pillars, followed by a curved space paved in travertine. This distinctive entrance design creates a strong visual impact and reveals the intentional architectural thinking behind the building's composition.
