Biotopo Torbiera di Rasun

The Biotopo Torbiera di Rasun spans 23 hectares of wetlands at 1075 meters elevation, containing small lakes, dense forests, and marshy meadows across the landscape.

The protected area, established in 1973, preserves a section of the original marshlands that covered large portions of the Antholz valley in past centuries.

The name Rasen stems from Celtic language roots, reflecting the region's ancient connection to wetland territories in the South Tyrol mountains.

Visitors can access the reserve through a 20-minute walking trail from Oberrasen church, following wooden walkways with information panels about local wildlife.

The biotope contains South Tyrol's largest moorland system, where carnivorous sundew plants capture insects in the nutrient-poor environment.
