Castle of Compiano

The Castle of Compiano is a medieval fortress perched on a hilltop in Val di Taro within Parma province, offering sweeping views across Emilia-Romagna's landscapes. Inside, ancient furnishings and exhibitions showcase how noble residents once lived within these walls.

Built by the Lombards in the early Middle Ages as a defensive stronghold, the fortress changed hands over centuries. It passed from the Malaspina family to the Commune of Piacenza and eventually to the Landi family, each shaping its story.

The castle houses the International Masonic Museum Orizzonti Massonici, displaying rare British Masonic artifacts from the 18th and 19th centuries. Visitors can explore how these objects reveal the beliefs and practices of Masons from that era.

Visit through guided tours that lead you through the rooms and explain the history and collections on display. Wear sturdy shoes, as the climb to the hilltop and the stairs inside can be demanding.
